Leadership/Volunteer Opportunities
Who makes the decisions here?
How does stuff get done?
Youth ministry at First Presbyterian,
Concord, seeks to partner youth and adults in the "doing" of
ministry, remembering at all times that faithful ministry seeks to
both follow God and engage people where they are.
While the Associate Pastor for Youth
Ministry shoulders a biog part of this responsibility, the goal is
to empower others to use their gifts in ways that serve, support,
and connect the youth to each other, to the world, and to God.
As such, there are opportunities for
both youth and adults to lead and volunteer to meet the needs of
this ministry.
Youth:
Like with all church programs, Youth
Ministry recognizes Jesus as head of the church—what we do and how
we lead is centered on what we know of the person and work of
Christ—one who ate with outcasts, befriended sinners, healed the
sick and comforted the brokenhearted, always looking to serve others
before serving himself. And of course, Jesus was not alone—he called
others to follow him, to work with him and to serve others as he
served them.
The leadership of youth ministry at First Presbyterian seeks to
follow this model by adopting what is known as the “team approach”
to youth ministry, in which young people and adults, working in
partnership help plan, implement, and advocate the different
programs and needs of youth in the congregation and community.
To that end, youth and adults meet on the first Tuesday of each
month for a planning session. All youth and adult advisors are
encouraged, but not required to come, check the calendar, offer
suggestions, discuss possibilities, and pray for God's guidance as
we work together. Middle School planning session run from
7:00-7:30; High school planning sessions run from 7:30-8:00.
Snacks are served! Check out the Calendar for the next
planning session date.
Adults:
If you are an adult reading this and
have also read just about any other page on this site having to do
with youth ministry, you most likely realize that one of the biggest
components of youth ministry is the presence of caring and committed
adults whom young people can look to as mentors, role models, and
trusted friends.
Serving in this way is not for every adult, but there just may be a
need in youth ministry that you can help fill, whether it be as a
Sunday School Teacher, Sunday Night Youth Advisor, Meal Preparer,
Car Driver, Confirmation Guide, Mission Trip Participant —or a host
of other things!
While many of our helpers in this regard are parents of current
youth, and while we encourage such parental participation, these
opportunities for leadership and support are not limited to them—any
member of First Presbyterian is welcome to inquire about how their
gifts might contribute to Youth Ministry. Please check back soon for
a dowloadable “Opportunities Form” where you can get more details on
how you can help!
